The Promise of Fulness

About this teaching

The teaching highlights God's sovereign design to lead every believer into the profound depths of union with Jesus Christ. This is set forth in Colossians 1:19, which states, "For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell." God's overarching purpose is to sanctify and mature every believer in Christ, as captured in Colossians 1:28: "We proclaim Him, admonishing every person and teaching every person with all wisdom, so that we may present every person mature in Christ." Believers are exhorted to move beyond the elementary teachings and press forward to mature understanding and faith, as written in Hebrews 6:1: "Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity." Central to the message is the truth of Colossians 2:9, which declares, "For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form." Thus, by being in Christ, believers are made complete, as Colossians 2:10 affirms: "and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority."
