About this teaching

We understand that the core of Christian preaching is centered on Jesus Christ crucified, a concept that is perceived differently by various groups. To Jews, the cross represents a symbol of shame and horror, as a crucified person was seen as accursed by God. For Greeks, it symbolized disgrace and was associated with criminals, making the idea of a crucified Messiah or the worship of a crucified criminal appear as folly or a heinous superstition. However, for us who believe, the cross is the power of God, a crucial element of the gospel that brings salvation to everyone who believes. This is echoed in scriptures like Romans 1:16 and 8:3, which highlight the gospel's power and God's action in sending His Son for our salvation.

The sermon also emphasizes the contrast between human wisdom and divine wisdom. Scriptures like Isaiah 29:14 and 1 Corinthians 3:19 remind us that God's wisdom surpasses human understanding. The world, in its wisdom, failed to know God, but through what is perceived as the 'foolishness' of the gospel, believers are saved. This message challenges the wisdom of the wise and the intelligence of the intelligent, as seen in 1 Corinthians 1:20. It's a stark reminder that the wisdom of God, even in its perceived foolishness, is wiser than human wisdom, and His strength, even in perceived weakness, is stronger than human strength, as stated in 1 Corinthians 1:25. This profound truth resonates with us, affirming that Christ crucified, though a stumbling block to some, is the embodiment of God's power and wisdom for those who are called, both Jews and Greeks.
