Introducing the Gifts of the Spirit
About this teaching
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are introduced as essential for the functioning of the church. Alongside these gifts, we also have the gifts of men - like pastors, teachers, prophets, and apostles - all of which contribute to the church's edification and growth. We draw a clear line between the gifts of the Holy Spirit, given according to God's will, and the fruit of the Spirit, which should be evident in all believers.
Ephesians 4 vs 7-12 explains the purpose of the gifts of the Holy Spirit: for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, and for the edifying of the Body of Christ. Every member of the church has a role to play, and no role is insignificant. The ultimate goal is the growth and maturation of the church, likened to the growth of a child, into the fullness of Christ.
Every brother and sister in the church is encouraged to find their place in the body and to serve faithfully in God's house. Service is not limited to prominent roles but includes even the smallest acts of participation and support.
