God has Chosen the Foolish Things of the World
About this teaching
In this sermon, we reflect on the profound truth that God's selection of individuals is not based on human standards of wisdom, power, or noble birth, as highlighted in 1 Corinthians 1 vs 26-31. We recognize that our calling by God defies the world's expectations, as He often chooses what is considered foolish, weak, and lowly to shame the wise and strong. This divine choice emphasizes that no one can boast in His presence, for it is solely by His grace and not by our merits or achievements.
We understand that being chosen by God is a matter of grace through faith in Jesus Christ, independent of our abilities, status, or past successes. This is exemplified in the story of the rich man and Lazarus from Luke 16 vs 19-31, where worldly wealth and status did not determine one's eternal destiny. We are reminded that our wisdom and strength are insignificant in God's grand design. The poem "Ozymandias" by Percy Bysshe Shelley further illustrates the fleeting nature of earthly power and glory. Ultimately, we acknowledge that God, in His infinite wisdom, will receive all the glory, as our achievements and human wisdom pale in comparison to His eternal plan and purpose.
